Amos 9 Commentary

Amos 9:1–4

Amos describes Israel’s absolute inescapability from the impending judgment.

Amos 9:5-6

Following the description of judgment upon the disobedient Israelites (vv. 1-4), Amos portrays the LORD as the sovereign God who has complete control over all creation.

Amos 9:7-10

The Suzerain God dismisses Israel’s arrogance and false confidence in themselves and says that He will shake the sinners of His people and kill them by the sword.

Amos 9:11-15

The Suzerain (ruler) God promises to restore the Israelites along with their fortune. He will repair, raise up, and rebuild the fallen dynasty of David. He will bless them with national stability and grant them peace of mind.
