1 Corinthians 11:27 meaning

In this verse, the apostle Paul warns the Corinthians about the grave responsibility they bear when participating in the Lord's Supper. He indicates that partaking of this sacred ordinance in an unworthy manner equates to being guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. The issue at stake is not merely about personal worthiness, but rather the manner in which they approach the table of communion. Paul addresses their behavior, which included divisions and selfish conduct during the meal, as factors that rendered their participation inappropriate and disrespectful.

By engaging in such actions, they trivialize the profound significance of Christ’s sacrifice. The verse emphasizes that recognition of the body—both in terms of Christ’s atoning sacrifice and the unity of the church community—is essential to a worthy partaking of the meal. Of course Jesus is not divided. Paul asks them why they should fight over which human man they favor. Paul did not die for anyone’s sins. No one was baptized in Paul’s name. Jesus the Son of God is their savior and Lord. These believers ought to be united in Jesus Christ.
