Luke 9:41 meaning

In this verse, Jesus expresses disappointment at the lack of faith among the crowd and His disciples. The context shows that after His transfiguration, He encounters a father desperately seeking help for his possessed son. The disciples had failed to cast out the demon, revealing their inadequacy, which directly connects to the theme of faith that runs throughout this passage. This failure lays the groundwork for Jesus to demonstrate His divine authority over evil.

The term used by Jesus, which Weber translated as “faithless and perverse generation,” echoes God’s lament in Deuteronomy regarding Israel’s unbelief. Here, Jesus laments the spiritual dullness of His contemporaries, reflecting a broader challenge faced by believers to maintain faith in the presence of overwhelming struggle.
