Israelites Are Exiled to Assyria

This map shows the exile of the Israelites to Assyria after the fall of the northern kingdom of Israel in 722 BC. The red arrows trace the deportation of Israelites from Samaria northeast through Assyrian territory toward places such as Gozan and Media, where they were resettled far from their homeland. The green arrows show how the Assyrians brought foreign peoples from regions such as Babylon, Cuthah, and Hamath into Israel, creating a mixed population in the land. From a biblical perspective, this map illustrates the judgment described in 2 Kings 17, where Israel was exiled because of persistent idolatry and covenant unfaithfulness. It also shows the power of the Assyrian Empire, which used forced relocation to weaken conquered peoples and prevent rebellion.
