Seir & Edom

Seir & Edom

This map shows the region of Edom, located southeast of Israel and south of Moab, along the rugged territory of Seir and the Arabah, the long valley running south from the Dead Sea toward the Red Sea. The map highlights Edom’s mountainous landscape, key travel routes such as the King’s Highway, and towns associated with Edomite rulers listed in Genesis 36, including places such as Teman, Bozrah, Avith, and Masrekah. Edom was descended from Esau, the brother of Jacob, making the Edomites closely related to Israel, though the two nations were often in conflict. This map helps show why Edom was important in Israel’s history: it bordered Israel’s southern wilderness, controlled important routes through the Arabah and surrounding highlands, and later became a frequent subject of prophetic judgment because of its pride and opposition to God’s people.
