The wicked eventually face what they fear, but the righteous receive what they rightly long for.
In Proverbs 10:24, Solomon says, What the wicked fears will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted (v. 24). The wicked live with underlying dread because sin creates insecurity. Even when outwardly confident, they know they are building on unstable ground.
The fear of the wicked comes upon him because rebellion ultimately brings the very judgment it tries to escape. Sin promises freedom but produces anxiety. It cannot deliver peace because it places a person at odds with reality and with God.
The righteous, however, have desires that are increasingly shaped by wisdom. That is why Solomon says the desire of the righteous will be granted. Their longings are being brought into harmony with what God delights to give.
