Proverbs 28:10 meaning

The man who leads the upright astray falls into his own pit, while the blameless inherit good.

Solomon now turns to the man who corrupts the upright: He who leads the upright astray in an evil way will himself fall into his own pit, but the blameless will inherit good (v. 10). Proverbs 28:10 traces consequences.

The man who deliberately tries to corrupt those who are walking rightly, leading them into compromise, is named here: He who leads the upright astray in an evil way. His sin is doubled: he sins himself, and he draws others into sin.

Will himself fall into his own pit, meaning that the trap he set ends up holding him. The pattern from Proverbs 26:27 returns. The misleader becomes the misled, captured by his own scheme.

The verse closes on a positive note: But the blameless will inherit good. Those who maintained their walk despite the temptation to be led astray receive what was promised the upright. Their inheritance, while delayed in coming, is sure.
