Proverbs 10:14 meaning

Wise people store up knowledge, while foolish words bring danger close.

In Proverbs 10:14, Solomon says, Wise men store up knowledge, but with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand (v. 14). Wisdom handles knowledge carefully. The wise do not spill everything impulsively; they gather, preserve, and apply truth at the proper time.

To store up knowledge suggests stewardship. The wise treat understanding as something valuable, something to be guarded and used well. They listen, reflect, and learn before speaking. Because of that, they are better prepared to act faithfully when the moment comes.

The fool does the opposite. His mouth brings ruin near because he speaks carelessly and prematurely. Instead of storing wisdom, he releases folly. This verse reminds us that knowing when to speak and when to remain silent is itself part of wisdom.
