Proverbs 11:23 meaning

The desires of the righteous aim at good, while the expectations of the wicked lead to judgment.

In Proverbs 11:23, Solomon writes, The desire of the righteous is only good, but the expectation of the wicked is wrath (v. 23). Righteousness does not only change actions; it reshapes desire. What a person longs for reveals the kind of person they are becoming.

The desire of the righteous is only good because wisdom trains the heart to want what aligns with God’s design. As a person walks in righteousness, his appetites are gradually reordered. He increasingly wants what is true, just, and life-giving.

The expectation of the wicked is wrath because their hopes are set on what provokes judgment. Their desires are not neutral; they move against reality and against God. Therefore the future that awaits them matches the path they have chosen.
