Proverbs 13:10 meaning

Pride produces conflict, but wisdom grows in those who humbly receive counsel.

In Proverbs 13:10, Solomon says, Through insolence comes nothing but strife, but wisdom is with those who receive counsel (v. 10). Pride is again presented as a conflict-producing force. Insolence resists correction and pushes against the limits of reality.

When a person operates through insolencenothing but strife follows because arrogance disrupts peace. It insists on self-importance, refuses teachability, and treats others competitively rather than humbly. Pride turns conversation into conflict.

By contrast, wisdom is with those who receive counsel. Teachability opens the door to peace because it allows truth from outside oneself to shape one’s path. Wisdom grows where pride is willing to kneel. Proverbs never tires of this lesson because it is foundational to life.
