Proverbs 14:26 meaning

Reverence for the Lord creates deep confidence and makes a person a refuge to others.

In Proverbs 14:26, Solomon says, In the fear of the LORD there is strong confidence, and his children will have refuge (v. 26). This is a beautiful paradox. Fearing the Lord produces confidence rather than terror.

The fear of the LORD is reverent trust, the willingness to live under God’s wisdom rather than one’s own illusion of control. That posture gives strong confidence because it anchors the soul in what is truly stable.

It also provides generational blessing: his children will have refuge. The one who fears the Lord creates an environment of safety and stability for others. A life rightly ordered under God becomes shelter, not only for the self, but for the household.
