Proverbs 21:12 meaning

The houses of the wicked are watched, and the watcher is patient but never absent.

A patient watcher appears in Proverbs 21:12: The righteous one considers the house of the wicked, Turning the wicked to ruin (v. 12). The verse is best read with God as the unstated agent of the second clause.

The righteous one observes the house of the wicked, and the LORD ultimately turns that house to ruin. (Some translations render the first half as "the Righteous One"—that is, God Himself—looking on the house of the wicked.)

Either way, the verse insists that the prosperity of the wicked is being watched, and that the watching is not passive. Houses built on injustice will eventually be turned over. The watcher is patient, but not absent.
