Mesopotamia

Mesopotamia

Mesopotamia, the land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, was one of the earliest centers of civilization and included important cities such as Ur, Babylon, Nineveh, and Mari. Babel was located in this area, where mankind’s pride led to the confusion of languages; Ur of the Chaldeans was the homeland of Abraham before God called him to Canaan; and later, powerful empires such as Assyria and Babylon rose from this region and played major roles in Israel’s history. The region of Mesopotamia was central to the unfolding story of God’s dealings with nations and His covenant promises.
