Nebuchadnezzar attacks Judah

This map shows Nebuchadnezzar's final campaign against Judah, when Babylon advanced south through the land and brought Jerusalem to its final destruction in 586 BC. The routes show Babylon's movement toward Judah, Pharaoh Hophra's attempted intervention from Egypt, and Babylon's confrontation with him before returning pressure to Jerusalem. The inset highlights Zedekiah's flight from Jerusalem toward Jericho, where he was captured by the Babylonians and taken north to Riblah, then eventually to Babylon. The map also shows Edom seizing land in southern Judah, reflecting the instability and betrayal Judah faced during its collapse. This map illustrates the fulfillment of Jeremiah's warnings: because Judah persisted in rebellion against the LORD and against Babylon's rule, Jerusalem fell, the temple was destroyed, and the people were carried into exile.
