God is the source of wisdom, the arbiter of wisdom, the giver of wisdom and the gifts that accompany it.

Continuing his introduction to The Book of Proverbs, Solomon uses cause-and-effect descriptions to communicate the value and benefit of wisdom.

Abraham, Isaac, and the two servants return to Beersheba where they lived. Abraham’s brother, Nahor, had eight children with his wife Milcah. One of the eight children, Bethuel, became the father of Rebekah. Nahor also had four children with his concubine, Reumah. Rebekah would grow up to marry Isaac.

God speaks again, saying that because of Abraham’s faithfulness he will be blessed. God promises that Abraham’s descendants will be many and they will conquer their enemies. Through Abraham’s obedience, all the nations of the earth will be blessed.

Just then, Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught in a thicket. Abraham offered the ram as the burnt offering instead of Isaac. The place was then called, “The Lord will Provide.”

Abraham binds Isaac and places him on an altar. As Abraham takes the knife to slay his son, the angel of the Lord calls to him from heaven.

Abraham takes Isaac, a knife, and the wood needed for the offering. As they walk, Isaac asks Abraham what they will sacrifice. Abraham replies that God will provide the lamb.

God tells Abraham to travel to Mt. Moriah and offer Isaac as a sacrifice. Abraham takes Isaac on the three-day journey to the mountain.

Lady Wisdom warns that trying evil for a time and/or using wisdom only for circumstantial change is not going to work. But the faithful will discover security and peace, no matter their circumstances.

Lady Wisdom warns of the reality that some will continue to ignore her calling. This results in a myriad of undesirable consequences.

Wisdom (personified as a woman) shouts in public, beckoning all to hear and obey.

The Book of Proverbs is committed to explaining the reality of how life works. Solomon does this by discussing the ineffectiveness and danger of foolishness.

The Wisdom of God is not the only voice vying for our perspective and trust. Sin calls us toward the path of foolishness, a perversion of the good for which God intends.

Wisdom is not something we can do by ourselves. We need the help and instruction of others and, most importantly, a trust and dependence on God.

Solomon begins The Book of Proverbs by establishing the authority from which he writes. He then fires off a set of clauses that set up the purpose of life and the intent behind the book.

The LORD finishes speaking to Moses. This is most likely at the end of the forty days that Moses was in His presence on Mount Sinai.

The LORD gives a strong reminder that, in spite of their spiritual duty to build the tabernacle and the furnishings, the craftsmen are required to observe the Sabbath and cease their work. Anyone who did not observe the Sabbath would face dire consequences.

The LORD specifies which Israelites were to construct the Tabernacle and its furnishings.

The LORD describes how to make the incense, its use, and the demand for complete obedience.

This passage concerns the oil used for anointing. Following the introduction, the LORD specifies how to make the anointing oil. Then the LORD states the purpose of the anointing oil, followed by the command to make it a permanent part of worship at the tabernacle.
