Christ, the Son of God, created the universe and has inherited the earth as a possession as well as being its King. Jesus wants to mature Christians through sanctification and the suffering of rejection by the world so that they can become sons as well, and serve as co-rulers with Him in the future. He has already saved us to be children of God, and He considers us brothers. He wants many brothers to also share His glory. The reward of this glory requires walking in faithful obedience.

Christ humbled Himself lower than angels by becoming a man and living the life of a human. Christ suffered death, out of obedience to God, and was rewarded with the glory and honor first bestowed to Adam, meaning that Christ has inherited the earth to rule over it. It is through experiencing his suffering of obedience that we can join Him in sharing His inheritance.

God appointed man, not angels, to rule over the earth. Man has failed to rule over the earth because he fell into sin through Adam. But Jesus has restored the right of humans to reign, and invites each believer to share this inheritance with Him, by sharing in His sufferings.

Christians have received the greatest salvation, better than the law of the Old Testament. We should take Christ’s teachings seriously or else we will wander from them and miss out on a great blessing. We need to be fully delivered from the negative consequences of the Fall, by being completely restored to our original design. 

God has never told the angels to sit at His right hand or told them He will make their enemies a footstool. Angels are made to do what God commands to help believers.

The Lord created the earth and the heavens, they will perish but the Lord is the same.

Still contrasting the Son with the angels, this verse talks about Christ’s throne lasting forever and God anointing Christ above everything.

The Son is greater than the angels because the angels have been commanded to worship Him and they serve Him.

The Son is greater than the angels because God has made Him the heir of all things.

Christ is the exact representation of God and all things exist because of Christ. He is seated at the right hand of God and is greater than the angels.

The law and the prophets came to their peak in Christ. Christ is God’s Son and the heir of all things.

Christ died and resurrected to be the Lord of our lives. There may be petty differences in how we live, but whatever we do should be for the Lord, rather than ourselves, according to our conscience.

God is our master and king. We should not look to judge one another for differences in religious practices or impose our habits on each other. God is the judge, not us.

Love fulfills the Law. If we love one another, we can live righteously and harmoniously with each other. Jesus said the same thing, that in loving God and one another we fulfill the Law. We have an obligation, we owe it to each other, to love one another.

Obeying the law means paying our taxes. We need to pay what we owe to those in charge of us, both money and respect.

The government is meant to make laws that punish evil actions. If we want to feel safe in our country, we should obey the laws. The government’s job is to act on God’s behalf to enact justice. If we break the law, we rightly should feel worried. We should obey the laws of our country to both avoid punishment and to have a clean conscience.

As Christians, we should obey the laws of our earthly government. The existing authorities were put there by God. If we break the law, we are defying God, and we’re not exempt from punishment.

Agape love seeks the best even for our enemies. This is how to beat evil, not by battling it with vengeance. Evil is defeated by good.

We aren’t God. Our role is not to right all wrongs, especially personal wrongs. If we seek to pay people back for how they’ve treated us, we’re in God’s way. God is the Judge. 

Living harmoniously by faith in God looks like blessing our enemies. It looks like sympathizing with other people, in good times and bad times. It looks like unity, not elevating ourselves. Living only for ourselves is contrary to God’s design for our lives; we were made to live in harmony with others.
