Proverbs 14:22 meaning

Those who plan evil wander off course, while those who plan good walk in kindness and truth.

In Proverbs 14:22, Solomon says, Will they not go astray who devise evil? But kindness and truth will be to those who devise good (v. 22). This proverb contrasts intentional evil with intentional good. Both begin in the realm of planning.

Those who devise evil go astray because wickedness bends a person away from reality. Planning evil is not cleverness but wandering. The heart that schemes harm has already departed from the straight path.

But kindness and truth belong to those who devise good. The pairing is important. Goodness is not sentimental alone; it is joined with truth. The one who plans what is good participates in God’s own moral order and receives the fitting fruit of that alignment.
