Proverbs 15:12 meaning

A scoffer avoids correction and refuses wise company because pride keeps him from being taught.

Proverbs 15:12 returns to the scoffer: A scoffer does not love one who reproves him, he will not go to the wise (v. 12). This verse exposes why scoffing is so spiritually dangerous.

The scoffer does not love one who reproves him because correction feels like a threat to his pride. He resents the person who speaks truth into his life. Rather than welcoming help, he turns against it. This creates a closed moral system in which growth becomes almost impossible.

That is why he will not go to the wise. Wisdom requires humility, but the scoffer would rather avoid wise people than hear what he needs. The tragedy is not merely that he lacks instruction, but that he avoids the very company where healing and clarity might be found.
