If we understand who God is, we should live not only basked in His love, but in the fear of His might.

Esau is an example of someone we shouldn’t imitate; someone who gave up his inheritance to satisfy a temporary appetite.

Walking by faith is like enduring physical hardship. It takes discipline.

We grow up (mature) as Christians when we endure through suffering. Suffering is used by a loving God to train us into living righteously, to share in His holiness.

We should remember Christ’s example as one who suffered to the point of death, showing His perfect endurance till the end. This can encourage us, for we are called to mature as Sons of God, who receive parental discipline from our loving Father.

There are many people from the Old Testament who were faithful to God, which should inspire us to give up on the things of this world that weigh us down. We can live lives of faith too when we put our eyes on Jesus, who founded and finished our faith for the sake of heavenly joy.

All of these faithful believers gained approval, but they have not yet gained the promise.

God does not always deliver believers in this life, sometimes believers suffer terrible things in this life and do not see their reward or deliverance until the next life.

The Pauline Author recognizes that he cannot acknowledge all of the faithful believers, but he names some of the incredible trials they endured for their faithfulness.

Faithful believers still do what is right even in the face of persecution.

Faithful believers are able to look beyond death to resurrection and to a fulfilled promise.

Those who remain faithful regard themselves as strangers on this earth, because they know there is a better heavenly country. They live by faith, believing in the promised reward.

The Pauline Author names the patriarchs of the Jewish faith as faithful believers in the promises of God. 

The foundation of faith is to believe that God created the world by His word. Abel, Enoch, and Noah are early examples of faithful believers. 

The Pauline Author begins by explaining what faith is. 

We can be confident in our hope in Christ, which will be rewarded. We need to endure in our faith, which is the will of God and comes with a reward.

The Hebrews have proven in the past that they are capable of enduring through trials, suffering for Christ’s sake, and remaining faithful.

If we abandon our faith and choose to live sinfully, we will get a negative reward. We will lose our inheritance in the future kingdom.

We should be fully committed to confess our hope in God. We should love and do good for our fellow believers. We should meet with and encourage one another to do this, because the day of judgement approaches.
